Investing in communities is at the heart of what we do. We work closely with our contractors to give back across our communities through social value. What matters to our staff, contractors and residents is the impact we can have across Barnet through social value and community investment.
This means we are committed to making communities a better place to live and work.
The Public Services (Social Value) Act 2012 requires all public sector organisations (and their suppliers) to consider how the services they commission can improve the economic, social and environmental well-being of an area.
Social: we measure the benefits we bring to communities – improving well-being, increasing social inclusion and access to opportunities.
Economic: we assess how our contractors contribute to local employment, cost savings for public services, and supporting financial growth.
Environment: Improve energy efficiency, promote sustainable practices and improving our green outdoor spaces. This approach ensures that our work creates value for both people and the planet.

Community based projects: we have supported projects in the voluntary sector, for our residents and our YCB service users. Community events, financial support, makeovers to community spaces, materials/ labour, workshops, well-being, inclusion, and sustainability activities.
Skills and employment: employing local apprentices (trade and office based) and other full and part time opportunities for those who live in the area.
Sponsorship of our annual events – Community Awards, Community Chest Fund and Urban Gamez. These events would not be able to happen every year if it were not for our contractors. We have obtained over £100k in sponsorship for these events to date.
